This week belonged to one name on Nollywood YouTube. Toluwani George led two separate films on two of the platform's biggest channels in the same week, and both delivered. Here are this week's top five picks plus an extra dose.
1. Courtyard on Bolaji Ogunmola TV is the first pick and it is refreshing in terms of storytelling. After a career-ending basketball injury shatters his identity, a young former athlete desperately searches for a new purpose, stumbling through failed ambitions, unexpected love, and the pressure to reinvent himself before he can truly move forward. Toluwani George leads alongside Kayode Ojuolape, Bolaji Ogunmola, and Michael Ejoor. The storytelling here is a little different from what you usually get on Nollywood YouTube and that alone makes it worth your time. Watch here:
2. The Bride Switch on Omoni Oboli TV is the second pick and Toluwani George leads here too, making this her weekend. To save her family from ruin, Adanna makes one impossible sacrifice by taking her twin sister's place as the bride of a wealthy stranger. It is supposed to be temporary but the husband she never wanted turns out to be carrying wounds of his own, and somewhere between their battles and unexpected tenderness, pretence gives way to something terrifyingly real. The film stars Eddie Watson, Toluwani George, Thelma Chukwunwem, and Symon Oko. Watch here:
3. The third pick is the Biodun Stephens film that you need to recommend to your pastor. Biodun Stephens consistently delivers films that sit in the space between faith, relationships, and real life without being preachy about it, and this one is no exception. Watch it on Shutterspeed TV here:
4. Debbie Shokoya's new film is the fourth pick and it is hot. If you have been following her trajectory over the past year, you already know she does not come to play. This one confirms that. Watch here:
5. Temisan is the fifth pick, Oyindamola Sanni's new film, and it is worth every minute. Watch it here:
Extra dose: Wife Material is still showing on Libra TV and if you have not seen it yet, this is your sign. The feminist podcaster who ends up questioning everything she believed about love has been one of the most talked about Nollywood YouTube films of the past two weeks and it is not hard to see why.
